ART HOUSE

07

Passionate about garden design! The construction process is where the magic truly happens. I was thrilled to be invited early in the design of the Art House to collaborate with the architect, making the most of the garden’s small space. This project was an engineering marvel featuring roof gardens, a tiled swimming pool, and one of the largest koi ponds we’ve designed, all perched on Houghton’s stone ridge overlooking the leafy suburbs of Rosebank.

The landscape boasted different climates and planting zones. On the roof garden, we used a mix of grey succulents and water-wise plants, creating stunning first-story views from the bedrooms and bathroom. Downstairs, the architect’s clever design opens up the whole garden, integrating the koi pond, lawn, and covered terrace to the pool. The garden and home blend into one harmonious space.

I love small gardens because you can obsess over every detail, and everything matters. The water garden, with papyrus and waterlilies, runs the length of the garden, connecting with the swimming pool. The strong presence of water creates a welcoming and serene space.
